Reshaping the Principalship
Insights From Transformational Reform Efforts
How the work of principals is being shaped by transformational reform measures is examined in this book. It aims to enrich our understanding of how restructuring has redesigned the work of principals, as well as the ways in which principals themselves are helping to shape and direct reform initiatives. Part I reviews the empirical evidence available at the start of the project and analyzes the challenges and possiblities for principals in restructuring schools. In Part II, nine case studies developed and presented by well-known researchers examine the changing role of the principal in the context of a single improvement effort. The editors then review and analyze the cases in Part II, with special attention to the overall themes and dilemmas.
